Let's Share the "Traditional" Cold Drip Making Method
For making cold drip coffee, it's recommended to choose single-origin beans. Using a slow drip rate of approximately 7 drops every 10 seconds for about 6-8 hours, this long-term low-temperature extraction method allows the coffee grounds to be fully moistened, effectively removing bitterness and tannins. The coffee presents a clear amber color, with rich and smooth mouthfeel, no acidity or astringency, and is gentle on the stomach.
—— Ingredients ——
- FrontStreet Coffee single-origin coffee beans 100g [optional: Kenya, Sidamo, Yirgacheffe, etc.]
- Room temperature drinking water 500g;
- Ice cubes 500g;
- AeroPress disc-shaped filter paper [◆Important];
- One set of cold drip equipment;
—— Production Process ——
- Grind coffee beans into powder (reference grind size: EK43 7 or Fuji 2.5), place a filter disc or filter paper and pour in the coffee powder;
- Mix all ice with water, place the filter cloth or filter paper on top of the powder layer, ensuring it fits closely with the powder layer;
- First quickly moisten the powder layer, wait for the coffee powder to evenly absorb water and expand, then adjust the drip rate;
- Start cold dripping after the powder layer has fully expanded, with a drip rate of about 7 drops every ten seconds;

Coffee beans: water: ice cubes ratio 1:5:5
- Using ice water for "pre-infusion" is actually similar to the blooming process in pour-over coffee, which can improve extraction efficiency and consistency of the final product. In cold drip's low-temperature and filtered extraction method, direct cold dripping might cause uneven moistening of the powder layer, where some coffee grounds are over-extracted while others don't participate in the extraction;
- Covering the top of the powder layer with filter cloth and filter paper also increases contact between water droplets and coffee powder, ensuring even extraction;
- The speed of water dripping is also very important. With a slow drip rate of 7 drops every 10 seconds for about 6-8 hours, the low-temperature conditions and long contact time with coffee powder allow only small molecular flavor compounds to be extracted, such as floral and fruit aromas. Larger molecular flavor compounds, like smoky and roasted flavors, are difficult to extract, resulting in a smoother, richer taste with distinct layers and obvious sweet aftertaste, without any greasy feeling.
- The final cold drip will have a light and clean mouthfeel, full aroma and very long-lasting aftertaste. Most importantly, this entire production process takes only 6-8 hours on average, making it more efficient whether for home enjoyment or shop service:) Finally, store it in a glass bottle and leave it in the refrigerator overnight for even better taste.

Hurry up and have some cold drip!
