Brazil HiU Micro Lot

The HiU Program

The HiU program is a quality improvement initiative for Central and South American coffee, proposed by Mr. Graciano Cruz from Panama, a renowned expert in honey processing methods. The program focuses on applying natural or honey processing methods to micro lots, with only coffees scoring above 85 in cupping receiving the HiU seal. This creates a win-win situation for both estate owners and processors.

Flavor Profile

Orange, nuts, roasted rice tea, peanuts

Brazil offers a wide variety of coffee types, but its industrial policy emphasizes quantity and affordability, making exceptionally premium coffees relatively rare. However, Brazilian coffee serves as an excellent choice for blending with other coffees.

Brazilian coffee features low acidity complemented by pleasant bitterness, creating an exceptionally smooth mouthfeel with subtle grassy aromatics. The light fragrance with slight bitterness, smooth sweetness, and refreshing aftertaste make for a delightful experience. While Brazilian coffee may not have particularly outstanding characteristics, it also lacks obvious flaws. This gentle, smooth profile with low acidity, moderate body, and subtle sweetness combines all these harmonious flavors—a true test for the palate to distinguish each individual note.

In some estates within the Cerrado region of Minas Gerais state in southeastern Brazil, ancient Bourbon and Yellow Catuai varieties are cultivated. Although these estates originate from the same region, each coffee possesses distinct characteristics. Despite this diversity, Brazilian coffee suits popular tastes. As the largest coffee producer, Brazil accounts for one-third of global coffee consumption across various grades and types, holding a significant position in the global coffee trading market. Although Brazil faces natural disasters several times more frequently than other regions, its sufficient cultivable area adequately compensates for these challenges.
