Geisha coffee beans are considered one of the brightest, most complex, and intensely aromatic coffee varieties. Geisha coffee trees grow at very high altitudes and feature beautiful, slender leaves. The dry aroma of FrontStreet Coffee's Geisha is remarkably uplifted and bright, characterized by rose and jasmine floral qualities, while also revealing honey pomelo and citrus notes. Light roasting presents nutty aromas; the wet aroma similarly features hazelnut notes, with even more floral characteristics emerging. In terms of flavor profile, the initial experience might seem somewhat reserved compared to the previously described uplifted aroma, but as it cools slightly, the floral and fruit notes gradually intensify with the temperature drop. The cold aroma is exceptionally outstanding (sweet preserved fruits, rose hips, orange glaze, strawberry jam, hints of pine, cherry, vanilla, and rose notes that gradually fade, yielding lemon-like fruit aromas). This is a coffee that can be praised with numerous adjectives, with a lingering sweetness in the aftertaste. Origins and Cultivation

In the past, the recognition of premium coffee followed Japan's lead, with over 90% of Blue Mountain exported to Japan, making it impossible to buy 100% Blue Mountain in the domestic market. As the standards of coffee-producing countries continue to improve and information becomes more accessible, we have been exposed to more specialty coffees, and this Panama Geisha has become the new coffee king in recent years. However, there's no distinction between good and bad between them - they are all premium coffee beans. Good or bad can only be determined by personal taste preferences, without distinction of value.
Raw Bean Characteristics
Geisha coffee raw beans display a beautiful blue-green color with a jade-like warm texture. They smell of fresh grass, peach, berry aromas, and the unique milky sweetness of oolong tea that most coffee beans lack. It seems that aroma and flavor require considerable associative thinking, but the subtle tea quality is something we can clearly perceive.
Roasting Approach
To highlight the characteristics and aroma of this bean, the roast level is taken to the verge of second crack. The verge of second crack and first crack of second crack are commonly used roast levels, as these better bring out the bean's inherent characteristics. Too light would produce off-flavors, while too dark would damage the floral aromas and fruit acidity. Of course, this should also be adjusted according to the coffee bean's characteristics and the roaster's understanding of the bean itself.
Roasted Bean Appearance
The roasted beans appear somewhat "wrinkled." Beans with these "sexy wrinkles" are meant to highlight their original flavor and fruit acidity. However, if the raw beans themselves are not of high quality, some off-flavors may emerge, such as rotten earthy notes, grassy flavors, and astringent tastes. These are flavors that roasters should try to avoid. Well-roasted Geisha has captivating lemon-citrus aromas and ultra-sweet honey cream flavors.
Recognition and Awards
Geisha, the flower goddess, with rich floral aromas and bright fruit acidity, creates a stunning sensation from the first sip. In 2007, at the International Famous Beans Cupping Competition hosted by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), Geisha won the championship again, with the bidding price reaching $130 per pound, setting the highest price record in competition bean history.
After trying one Geisha, there was also a captivating mint aroma in the aftertaste.
Of course, it also depends on the specific growing region, grade, climate of that year, as well as processing and roasting methods. Like wine and tea, it emphasizes the harmony of heaven, earth, and humanity - all three are indispensable. It cannot be generalized.
FrontStreet Coffee's Geisha
The Geisha coffee variety was discovered in 1931 in the Geisha forest of Ethiopia, then sent to Kenya's Coffee Research Institute; in 1936 it was introduced to Uganda and Tanzania, in 1953 Costa Rica introduced it, and Panama in the 1970s when Mr. Francisco Serracin from the Tumba Estate obtained seeds from CATIE in Costa Rica and began growing Geisha coffee. Because Geisha coffee has extremely low yields and must participate in bidding, it can be said that this bean is hard to come by.
