Brazil's Coffee Production to Reach 47.54 Million Bags This Year
Brazil's National Supply Company announced at the opening of the International Coffee Week on the 9th that as the world's largest coffee producer, Brazil's coffee production will reach 47.54 million bags (60 kg per bag) in 2013, a decrease of 6.46% compared to the previous year.
The main reason for Brazil's reduced coffee production this year is that it is currently in the off-year of the biennial coffee production cycle. However, Brazil's National Supply Company still believes that achieving such a production level in an off-year is already a considerable achievement.
The company stated that Brazil's national coffee planting area reached 2.31 million hectares this year, a slight decrease of 0.74% compared to last year. Among them, Minas Gerais state is the largest production area, with a planting area of 1.24 million hectares, accounting for 53.49% of the national total area.
On the same day, the International Coffee Week opened in Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais state, with over 200 representatives from international coffee organizations from 77 countries participating in the 5-day event. It is expected that contracts worth 20 million reais (approximately 8.7 million US dollars) will be signed during the event, indirectly bringing in 30 million reais (approximately 13.04 million US dollars) in investment.
