Chinese Coffee Makes Historic Debut at United Nations

On the afternoon of the 8th, a batch of Yunnan coffee, just returned from an exhibition at the United Nations Office in Geneva, was permanently sealed in Kunming. This marks the first appearance of Chinese coffee at the UN Palace of Nations in history. The UN "debut" of Chinese coffee was a great success, with the small-bean coffee from Yunnan receiving unanimous praise from coffee experts around the world.

UN Exhibition Showcases Chinese Excellence

From August 25 to September 6, the "Experience China Beautiful Yunnan" promotion event was held at the United Nations Office in Geneva. In addition to cultural performances, photo exhibitions, intangible cultural heritage displays, and Yunnan film showcases, Chinese coffee from Yunnan was featured at the Palace of Nations in Geneva, marking the first time Chinese coffee has been exhibited at the United Nations.

Local Brand Represents Chinese Coffee Industry

The Chinese coffee showcased at the Palace of Nations was from Yunnan's local brand Hōgu Coffee, divided into three main categories: coffee beans, instant coffee powder, and instant coffee, totaling over 40 individual products. In addition to the exhibition, these coffee products were also sold on-site, with all proceeds donated to relevant UN charitable organizations.

Hu Lu, Deputy Secretary-General of the Yunnan Coffee Industry Association, who helped organize this exhibition, stated that displaying Chinese coffee at the Palace of Nations changed the perception among UN Geneva officials that "China only has tea, no coffee." Chinese coffee received high recognition from them.

International Acclaim and Recognition

Hu Lu told reporters that UN Geneva Director-General Tokayev spoke highly of Chinese coffee, saying, "I didn't expect China to have such excellent coffee!" After tasting Hōgu Coffee, officials and journalists from more than 100 countries and regions around the world were amazed that China could produce such high-quality coffee. Coffee importers and exporters from countries including France, Germany, and Switzerland expressed their interest in becoming Hōgu Coffee's sales agents in their respective countries.

Hu Lu said, "Hōgu Coffee representing Yunnan coffee at the UN Palace of Nations exhibition plays a positive role in developing China's potential coffee consumption market and broadens channels for international understanding of Chinese and Yunnan coffee. We hope more and more Yunnan and Chinese coffee enterprises will go abroad to promote Yunnan coffee and Chinese coffee."

China's Rising Coffee Industry

Coffee is the world's largest beverage after water, with current global coffee consumption exceeding 8 million tons. In recent years, China has become one of the fastest-growing countries in global coffee consumption. Yunnan is China's main coffee-producing region, accounting for 99% of China's coffee production. Its small-bean coffee varieties receive unanimous praise from domestic and international experts.
