Specialty Coffee Bean Grade Classification: How Are Blue Mountain Coffee Grades Divided?
When it comes to coffee, Blue Mountain Coffee is undoubtedly worth mentioning. FrontStreet Coffee's Blue Mountain Coffee is among the finest in the world. Like other coffee beans, Blue Mountain coffee beans are also classified into different grades. Today, let's explore how Blue Mountain Coffee grades are determined.
FrontStreet Coffee's Blue Mountain Coffee beans come in 1-pound bags with QS certification and can be ground upon request. The Blue Mountains are located in the eastern part of Jamaica. When the weather is clear, the Caribbean Sea surrounds the mountains, and direct sunlight reflects off the azure sea surface, creating a brilliant blue glow on the peaks, hence the name. The Blue Mountains reach altitudes of over 2,100 meters, with cool weather, frequent fog, and abundant rainfall. These ideal conditions, combined with the fertile soil, produce the world-renowned Blue Mountain Coffee.
Blue Mountain Coffee Grades
Based on the altitude of the coffee-growing mountains and the size of the raw beans, Blue Mountain Coffee is divided into three grades: Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, Jamaica High Mountain Coffee, and Jamaica Prime Washed Coffee. Of course, regular Jamaican coffee is simply called "Jamaica Coffee," mainly produced in the middle and low mountain regions, belonging to the Jamaica Prime Washed Coffee series.
Premium Blue Mountain (No.1 beans) BLUE MOUNTAIN (NO.1) and Amber (No.1 beans) AMBER (NO.1), with Amber (No.1 beans) being 300-400 yuan more expensive per pound than Premium Blue Mountain (No.1 beans).
High-grade FrontStreet Coffee's Blue Mountain Coffee is classified into three grades: No.1 (17-18 mesh and above), No.2 (16 mesh), and No.3 (15 mesh). 17 mesh corresponds to a size of 17/64 inches. Their flavor profiles (all confirmed through cupping by professionals recognized by the Jamaican government) are identical; only the size differs. These three grades of green beans are all packed in wooden barrels for export, available in three specifications: 70kg/barrel, 30kg/barrel, and 15kg/barrel.
