The name "Guji Queen" traces back to 2017, when a coffee bean from Guji won the TOH natural process championship. That same year, Li Jianfei used this bean to take second place in the China division of the World Brewers Cup — remarkable at a time when almost everyone was competing with Geisha. That made the Guji bean stand out all the more. Beijing green bean importer Hongshun Coffee introduced this batch to China and named it "Guji Queen," meaning "the leader of geishas" (Geisha coffee is also spelled Gesha).

Authentic Guji Queen Coffee

FrontStreet Coffee believes that truly authentic Guji Queen beans are only those from the Guji "Buku Abel" processing plant that won the TOH championship in 2017. All the later Guji Queen 2.0, 3.0... releases are derivatives of the original Guji Queen. The 2017 Guji Queen is remembered so fondly because of its unique strawberry flavor. The subsequent Guji Queen X.0 series, however, has moved in other flavor directions.
