Introduction
People have always used "coffee" to explore and understand a city.
I've always thought that driving around the city, freely making coffee from the trunk of a car, is incredibly cool.
When coffee connects with various interesting things, it becomes part of life.
Coffee is not just a beverage, but a lifestyle attitude.
The number of coffee shops has become one of the criteria for evaluating a city's livability.
Every vibrant community has its own coffee aroma, with coffee shops that reflect the character of that area.
Meeting the Creator
I met the creator of Trunk So Coffee in early April this year, during So Coffee's trial operation period.
The owner, A Su, is a slashie: kindergarten administrator & piano tutor & creator of Trunk So Coffee.
The first location where So Coffee set up was at the "imposing" Canton Tower, on the beautiful Ersha Island.
A Su said the reason for choosing Ersha Island was simple: the environment there is beautiful, and setting up an outdoor stall wouldn't affect nearby residents.
I naively thought it was because there were no surveillance cameras there (facepalm running.gif)
Ersha Island has an art park near Haixinsha, where A Su parked her car.
At that time, the "trunk stall" atmosphere on the island hadn't quite taken off yet.
The Social Aspect of Mobile Coffee
Perhaps in coffee shops, everyone quietly sits in their seats drinking their coffee, with an underlying sense of awkwardness between people.
"Outdoor coffee"恰好 can buffer this unfamiliar awkwardness, bringing people closer to each other.
This also aligns perfectly with A Su's concept of mobile coffee.
A Su said that initially, she started doing this purely to sell coffee.
But her outgoing and optimistic personality determined that she couldn't remain so "purely" commercial.
In A Su's own words: "I couldn't restrain my restless heart that enjoys making friends."
"I'm very happy that people become friends because of my coffee."
Taking the Leap
Since most of her equipment came with a "7-day no-reason return" policy,
Even though it was A Su's first time running a trunk coffee business, she didn't feel overly burdened.
So she just took a "let's try it" attitude and set up shop!
New Offerings
So Coffee recently introduced several new items:
New item: Lychee Cold Brew
New item: Jay Chou
New item: Karen Mok
Growing the Business
Through persistent promotion across different channels and platforms, Trunk So Coffee is gradually gaining more attention.
Due to some uncontrollable factors, A Su's coffee truck cannot always park in the same fixed location.
However, she updates everyone on tonight's location and time through a WeChat group.
Currently, there are two operating areas: one by the river at Pazhou Intercontinental Hotel, and the other at the old spot, Ersha Island Art Park.
Approximate time: 9:30 PM - 11:30 PM (depends on the owner's mood, haha)
The Future of Mobile Coffee
Drinking specialty coffee may be an important way of socializing nowadays.
With the development of the stall economy and night economy, I believe we will see more and more mobile coffee shops around us.
The creative appearance and novel experience of mobile business scenarios have sufficient appeal to today's young people.
Conclusion
Finally!
I still hope this kind of coffee shop will continue to thrive and do better~
