Flavor Profile Introduction: Ethiopia Kaffa Forest Region Kuti Cooperative Washed G2
From the most primitive forest Kaffa Region in Ethiopia
The Kaffa Forest Region of Ethiopia
Located in southwestern Ethiopia, the Kaffa Forest region continues to maintain the traditional appearance of Ethiopia's original forests to this day, preserving numerous native coffee varieties. Many cuppers who have tasted coffees from the Kaffa region agree that this area exhibits exceptionally diverse flavor profiles.
Situated in Ethiopia's most pristine forest - the Kaffa Region - the coffee trees grown here are part of the wild forest ecosystem. They grow naturally under the protection of mountainous terrain and rainforest trees, with fallen leaves and branches serving as the best natural organic fertilizer.
In the Kaffa forest, vast wetlands stretch across steep mountain valleys where towering peaks rise and fall across rolling plains. The special volcanic terrain is known as the continental rift valley. The region is home to 26 small cooperatives with approximately 4,166 farmers who grow coffee at altitudes of around 1,750 meters in the mountainous areas. Local farmers process their coffee cherries using natural methods.
It is believed that the first coffee tree was discovered in ancient "Abyssinia," which is modern-day Ethiopia. The area where these trees flower was called "Kaffa," and the trees were called "Kafa" - which may be the most original pronunciation of coffee.
