Characteristics and Grading System of Frontsteet Blue Mountain No. 1

Jamaica is an island nation located in Central America, surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. Jamaica has a very long history of coffee cultivation, dating back to 1728. Fertile volcanic soil and superior meteorological conditions with abundant rain, fog, and cool weather are particularly suitable for coffee growth. It is world-famous for producing what is considered the world's best coffee: "Jamaica Frontsteet Blue Mountain Coffee."

Jamaica Coffee Industry Board Standards

According to the standards of the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica (CIB), the legal Blue Mountain coffee growing region is limited to three administrative districts: St. Andrew, St. Thomas, and Portland.

The CIB also has strict standard certifications for the altitude of Blue Mountain coffee cultivation:

Coffee grown at altitudes of 900-1700 meters is called: Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee.

Coffee grown at altitudes of 460-900 meters is called: Jamaica High Mountain Coffee.

Coffee grown below 460 meters altitude is called Jamaica Premium Coffee, and coffee grown outside the Blue Mountain region is called Jamaica Supreme Coffee.

(Areas above 1700 meters altitude are designated as natural conservation areas where coffee cultivation is strictly prohibited.)
