What Do Geisha Red Label and Blue Label Mean? Red Label Geisha's Price Will Make You "Drop to Your Knees"
FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Panama Hacienda La Esmeralda Geisha
Geisha coffee originates from the Gesha forest in Ethiopia, Africa. Due to its pronunciation being similar to the Japanese word "geisha," it is sometimes referred to as "Geisha coffee." In the past decade or so, Geisha coffee has become incredibly popular, winning numerous awards and repeatedly setting coffee bean auction records. It is also highly sought after in China. There is plenty of information online about the legendary history of Geisha, so you can search for it yourself if interested. In short, it was discovered in the Gesha forest in 1931, introduced to Uganda and Tanzania in 1936, crossed the ocean to Costa Rica in Central America in 1953, and was introduced to Panama in 1970.
For a long time, this coffee remained relatively unknown. It wasn't until 2000 when Mr. Peterson of Hacienda La Esmeralda in Panama accidentally discovered the unique charm of Geisha and began entering this variety separately in World Coffee Championships, causing a sensation. From that point on, Geisha shot to fame, and its popularity has continued to this day. Besides being widely cultivated in Central and South America, it has also been reintroduced to Ethiopia, truly spreading its branches and flourishing.
FLYKOI's coffee has consistently maintained high quality, mainly because the owners travel to various origins and personally taste thousands of beans day after day before making their final selection. As a result, the staff is extremely confident in every carefully selected coffee bean in the store. More importantly, they aim to convey the concept that "coffee doesn't have to be expensive!" Specialty coffee isn't for showing off—it's part of daily life. They sell coffee, not space, at affordable prices, dedicated to creating a trendy specialty coffee brand for young people.
Panama Hacienda La Esmeralda Red Label Geisha
Anyone serious about coffee should try this "kneel-down" experience.
When FLYKOI's owner visited Hacienda La Esmeralda in Panama this March for cupping, the estate owner introduced this batch as beans intended for the BOP bidding auction. Although processed using yeast washed method, it has the characteristics of natural processing (strawberry, peach), and when cooled, it reveals the traditional floral notes of washed Geisha.
A very interesting coffee. You can taste both natural and honey-processed styles in one cup, while retaining the floral notes of washed Geisha.
