FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Coffee Growing Regions

To understand what the "Coffee Belt" is, we first need to know about the growing environment of coffee trees. The decisive factors for a plant's life cycle are none other than: water, air, soil, and sunlight. However, for coffee trees, we must also add altitude to this list.

Coffee Tree Growing Requirements

Water: Precipitation (1500mm-2260mm)

Air: Annual average temperature (17℃-25℃)

Soil: Well-drained, volcanic rock is most suitable

Sunlight: Abundant sunshine

Altitude: Simply put, higher altitude means superior quality

The Coffee Belt, centered on the equator, spans the region between 25 degrees north and south latitude, running through Central and South America, Oceania, Asia, and Africa. This area receives direct sunlight year-round, with abundant heat and sufficient rainfall. The annual average temperature is above 20℃, creating exceptionally favorable climate conditions最适合咖啡生长, producing high-quality coffee.

Climate is the decisive factor for coffee cultivation. Coffee trees are only suitable for growing in tropical or subtropical regions, so the area between 25 degrees north and south latitude is most suitable for coffee cultivation. This coffee production area is generally called the "Coffee Belt" or "Coffee Zone."

However, not all land within this region can cultivate excellent coffee trees. The most ideal growing conditions for coffee trees are: a warm climate with temperatures between 15-25℃, and annual rainfall must reach 1500-2000 millimeters, with the timing of rainfall aligning with the flowering cycle of coffee trees. Of course, in addition to the coordination of seasons and rainfall, fertile soil is also essential. The most suitable soil for coffee cultivation is fertile soil with good drainage and containing volcanic ash.
