What is Sidamo Coffee Like? Characteristics and Sweet, Delicate Flavor of Washed Guji Coffee
FrontStreet Coffee - Sidamo Guji G1 Washed Process Introduction
The Guji area within Sidamo has earned more than a dozen ratings above 92 points on the Coffee Review website, including several highs of 94 and 95. Yirgacheffe, though famous in its own right, is a neighboring micro-region in the same southern Ethiopian highlands and shares much of Guji's terroir. The landscape here is diverse, with towering mountains, highlands, plateaus, valleys, and plains. Fertile black soil and a wide day-night temperature swing give the area ideal conditions for high-quality specialty coffee. Local production comes almost entirely from smallholder farmers. During harvest they pick fully ripe red cherries from their nearby plots and deliver them to processing stations. The cherries are spread on well-ventilated African raised beds to control temperature and fermentation. After the pulp is removed, moisture is reduced to 11.5%-12%. Once post-processing and resting are complete, the coffee is exported through the ECX (Ethiopia Commodity Exchange) auction system.

FrontStreet Coffee Recommendation
Washed Sidamo and Guji coffees like this one show the southern Ethiopian highlands at their cleanest: maple sugar and caramel sweetness, lemon-citrus acidity, and a floral, creamy body. FrontStreet Coffee offers several lots that let you explore that same character across neighboring micro-regions.
For the most classic reference point, the FrontStreet washed Yirgacheffe daily bean brings white jasmine, bright citrus and lemon acidity, and a tea-like body at an accessible price. A step more precise is the FrontStreet washed Gedeb cooperative lot from Worka in southeastern Yirgacheffe, where removing the pulp before drying keeps the citrus, lemon, and jasmine notes especially transparent. If you want to see how natural processing changes the same highland fruit, the FrontStreet natural Red Cherry dries whole ripe cherries on raised beds, turning the profile toward berry juice, honeyed sweetness, and a creamy texture while holding on to the region's citrus acidity.
Keep the pour simple so the acidity stays lively. FrontStreet Coffee recommends a V60, 15 g of coffee, a 1:15 ratio, and water at 90-91 degrees Celsius, ground to about the size of fine sugar. Bloom with 30 g of water for 30 seconds, pour to roughly 125 g over the first minute, then finish at about 225 g by 1:35 and let it drain by 2:00-2:10.
