Elida Estate and El Burro Estate are owned by the Lamastus family and produce very high-quality green coffee beans in Panama. El Burro Estate is located at an altitude between 5,200 and 6,500 feet, while Elida Estate is the highest coffee farm in Panama, located at an altitude between 5,500 and 8,200 feet.
Elida Estate is a perennial winner at B.O.P, having won championships multiple times in recent years. In 2018, they won both the washed Geisha category and natural Geisha category, with the washed Geisha setting a difficult-to-surpass high score of 94.15 points. The natural Geisha reached an astonishing price of $803 per pound after BOP bidding, setting a new record in auction history. In 2019, Elida Estate won the championship again, demonstrating that the coffee grown by farm owner Wilford Lamastus, a true coffee master, produces truly extraordinary flavors.
The Elida Estate washed Geisha LATORRE LOT was selected by our team during cupping at the estate in March of this year, coincidentally from the same batch as the 2019 auction champion Lot GW-01ELIDA GEISHA GREEN TIP, with a cupping score of up to 95 points. The coffee comes from the LATORRE LOT section of the farm, which already won the championship in 2018 and won again in 2019, proving that coffee from this truly divinely selected land is heaven's best gift to us.
Knowledge Point
Geisha happens to have the same pronunciation as the Japanese word for geisha. Originally from Kenya, it traveled through Tanzania and Costa Rica, and was finally transplanted to Panama in the 1960s. After nearly half a century of obscurity, it suddenly rose to prominence, defeating perennial champions like Bourbon, Caturra, Catuai, and Typica varieties, sweeping first place in the Panama Cup of Excellence competition in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
