Arabica Coffee Bean Species

The Arabica coffee bean species (scientific name: Coffee Arabica). The origin of Arabica species is the Abyssinian Plateau of Ethiopia (now the Ethiopian Plateau). Initially used mainly as medicine for consumption, the habit of roasted drinking was cultivated in the 13th century. In the 16th century, it was introduced to Europe through the Arab world, further becoming a beverage loved by people worldwide.

Among all coffee beans worldwide, Arabica coffee bean species account for about 65%-80%. With their excellent flavor and aroma, they become the only coffee among these native species that can be directly and individually consumed. However, their resistance to drought, frost damage, and pests is low, especially to coffee's greatest enemy—leaf rust disease. Therefore, all producing countries are committed to improving varieties. For example, the well-known Sri Lanka was once one of the famous coffee-producing countries in the past. However, at the end of the 19th century, due to the rampant leaf rust disease, coffee plantations were not spared. Since then, Sri Lanka turned to develop black tea and became a black tea kingdom along with India.

The Arabica species belongs to larger shrubs, with elliptical, dark green leaves, and the fruits are also elliptical, generally containing two slightly flat beans. The beans are small and round, with an oval front face, narrow and curved S-shaped cracks in the middle, and a relatively flat arc on the back of the beans. Caffeine content is about 1%-1.7%.

Arabica coffee trees mostly grow at altitudes between 900-2000 meters; they are relatively cold-resistant, with suitable growth temperatures of 15-24°C; they require high humidity, with annual rainfall not less than 1500ml. Meanwhile, they also have higher requirements for cultivation techniques and conditions.

Major producing areas of Arabica coffee beans include South America (except for Argentina and parts of Brazil), Central American countries, Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia, etc., mainly East Africa), Asia (including parts of Yemen, India, Papua New Guinea), and China's Yunnan, Hainan, and Taiwan regions also grow small amounts of Arabica coffee beans.

Recommended Arabica Coffee Bean Brands

FrontStreet Coffee's roasted Arabica coffee beans have full guarantees in both brand and quality. More importantly, the cost-performance ratio is extremely high. Each package is 227 grams, with only about 70-90 yuan. Calculating at 15 grams of coffee beans per cup, one package can make 15 cups of coffee, with each cup costing only about 5-6 yuan. Compared to cafes that sell coffee for hundreds of yuan per cup, this is truly a conscientious recommendation.
