Shakisso, located in the Guji zone of the Oromia region, borders Sidama and Gedeo to the south. This area contains numerous mining pits that were originally used for gold excavation, which has left many holes throughout the coffee-growing region. This makes walking between coffee plantations extremely dangerous. Shakisso stands as a distinctive producing area within Guji/Sidamo, representing a remote region even within Sidamo, far from most coffee-producing areas. Gold mining is another famous local product. Factors such as miners, land, and ethnic tensions also made the region unstable in 2006. Consequently, the area now faces its greatest challenge: the need for human resources to maintain the plantations and harvest coffee. Local small-scale farmers began growing organic coffee here in 2001 and work closely with medium-sized coffee producers who understand how to cultivate forest coffee in the highlands.

The coffee flavors of Sidamo are incredibly diverse due to varying soil compositions, regional microclimates, and countless native coffee varieties, which result in distinct differences and characteristics in the coffee produced by each town. The Sidama coffee region is located in southern Ethiopia, where agriculture dominates the economy, and coffee-growing areas are situated around the Great Rift Valley.

Shakisso coffee possesses remarkable uniqueness, and its production consistently captures market attention. The legendary Ninety Plus bean "Nekisse" derives its name from the concept of "Nectar from Shakisso," with both its producing region and name originating from Shakisso.
