2014 World Barista Championship China Regional Shenzhen-Dongguan Selection Competition About to Begin

The 2014 World Barista Championship China Regional Shenzhen-Dongguan Selection Competition will soon get under way at Shenzhen Baoneng Taigucheng Garden Shopping Center. Thirty-two baristas from well-known coffee companies in Shenzhen, Dongguan, and the surrounding cities will compete for the top three places in the region, laying on a magnificent feast that blends visual and gustatory pleasure for the coffee-loving public of Shenzhen.

About the Competition

According to reports, the World Barista Championship China Regional Selection Competition (CBC), authorized by the World Barista Championship (WBC), is currently China's only professional coffee-making competition with systematic operations and international certification, and it carries a reputation as the "Olympics of the coffee world." Outstanding baristas selected through multiple rounds will go on to the China National Finals held in Shanghai next April, competing for the single opportunity to represent China at the overseas World Barista Championship (WBC).

FrontStreet Coffee Recommendation

Competitions aside, the fastest way to sharpen your palate is to brew entry-level specialty coffee at home, and FrontStreet's Brazil Cerrado Red Bourbon is an easy starting point. From Brazil's well-known Cerrado region, it is soft and sweet with a low, gentle acidity and a smooth, delicate body; when extracted it shows the classic creamy, peanut, and cocoa flavors that make Brazilian coffee so approachable.

For a first taste of African coffee, turn to FrontStreet's washed Yirgacheffe Gedeb cooperative. A representative Yirgacheffe from the Gedeb cooperative — an experienced processing group known for jasmine florals, lemon acidity, and berry notes — it delivers exactly the clean, aromatic character beginners hear so much about, and it is just as comfortable in a pour-over, a cold brew, or an espresso.
