African Coffee Prices Surge Significantly
Due to adverse weather conditions affecting Brazil, the world's largest coffee-producing country, coffee production has declined, resulting in a supply-demand imbalance in the international coffee market. On February 5th, the auction price for 50kg bags of coffee at the Nairobi Coffee Exchange in Kenya rose to $208, a 19.5% increase from last week's $174, reversing the downward trend in coffee auction prices since last year. Kenya currently produces approximately 50,000 tons of coffee annually, with 90% of it exported for foreign exchange.
