Special Barista Championship: Where Passion Transcends Silence

On December 20th, a quiet barista competition kicked off in Shanghai Pudong. Unlike previous barista competitions, the more than 10 participants in this competition were all special baristas. Although they cannot hear or speak, they all share a passionate heart for coffee. Throughout the competition, the contestants enthusiastically showcased themselves, and the baristas' "brilliant speeches" were conveyed to the judges and audience through every movement and detail.

Promoting Professional Excellence Through Inclusion

This special barista competition was jointly organized by the Coffee Professional Committee of Shanghai Technician Association, Shanghai Disabled Technical Experts Club, and Bear Claw Coffee. Through head-to-head competition and skill exchange, this competition can further enhance the skill level and professional qualities of special coffee practitioners, mobilize the enthusiasm and creativity of the majority of special coffee practitioners, and allow more special coffee practitioners to experience the scientific, standardized, and professional nature of vocational skill competitions.

As one of the organizing units, the Secretary-General of the Coffee Professional Committee of Shanghai Technician Association stated that this competition has great practical significance and public welfare energy. In addition to encouraging special coffee practitioners to showcase their skills and talents, this competition also expresses to the public that disabled baristas are no different from regular baristas. In the same positions, they can all demonstrate their professional abilities just like regular baristas.

Bear Claw Coffee: Championing Equal Employment Opportunities

As one of the organizing units, Bear Claw Coffee is probably no stranger to everyone. Since its establishment, Bear Claw Coffee has been paying attention to vulnerable groups and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities for people with disabilities. In addition to providing employment opportunities, Bear Claw Coffee cooperates with the Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation to provide more coffee vocational training for people with disabilities, allowing more people with disabilities to gradually gain confidence after coming into contact with coffee, rediscover the meaning of life, and better integrate into social life.

Expert Insights and Future Prospects

This competition invited Chen Yingying, a gold-medal disabled barista trainer who once served as the store manager of the first Bear Claw Coffee store, as one of the judges. She also won first place in the 6th National Disabled Persons Coffee Brewing Competition. Regarding this competition, Chen Yingying said that the contestants in this competition are not limited by age or region, but they have one thing in common: they all love coffee very much, and she hopes everyone can do their best.
