Coffee Truck Emerges in Hangzhou University Town: Are Mobile Coffee Carts and Trucks Viable in China?
The Dream of a Mobile Coffee Shop
Many people dream of opening their own coffee shop - imagining renting a small shop one day, creating a warm atmosphere, keeping a cat or dog, and chatting with customers while making coffee. While this sounds wonderful, reality often gets in the way. Due to financial constraints, most people can only dream about it. However, a small number of people have shifted their target to mobile stalls, leading to a popular trend of coffee trucks.
Recently, a mobile coffee stall converted from a truck appeared near Hangzhou University City. According to the owner, opening a coffee shop has always been his wife's dream, so he converted his daily cargo truck into a coffee stall. When there's other work, the truck is still used for cargo.
When the coffee shop is open, the owner is responsible for making all the coffee drinks, while his wife takes care of their child in the passenger seat. The "bar" inside the truck is decorated in a party style, with sun umbrellas, tables, and chairs placed beside the truck, thoughtfully covered with warm purple tablecloths, providing customers with a place to rest briefly. Both the inside and outside of the coffee truck reveal the owner's happiness!
The "Answer Coffee" Experience
Since the coffee truck is called "Answer Coffee," a curious netizen bought a cup of coffee and asked the owner: "When can I marry such a beautiful wife like you?" The owner then pulled out this straw and handed it to him:
(Oh dear, the coffee in hand suddenly lost its appeal)
(Netizen: How does dog-food-flavored coffee taste?)
Many netizens, upon seeing this scene, shared their thoughts:
"The front of the truck is for life, the back is for romance"
"Fulfilling his wife's dream, and also realizing his own entrepreneurial dream"
"Jealousy has distorted my face"
Challenges of Mobile Coffee Businesses
While romantic, some people also mentioned the crucial point: "When city management officers come, dreams turn into nightmares." The biggest problem with operating a coffee truck is venue rental. It's difficult to see mobile vehicles as permanent businesses, so applying for licenses related to mobile stalls might hit a dead end. Additionally, government departments have many restrictions on mobile stall operations. For the catering industry's hygiene standards, mobile stalls find it difficult to implement properly, and there are also issues with illegal occupation of roads (even in parking spaces). Therefore, wanting to use mobile vehicles as coffee business locations long-term is not feasible in China.
Regardless, the owner has at least fulfilled his wife's dream once and experienced the joy and difficulties of entrepreneurship. This kind of romance has indeed made many young people feel sour with envy.
