New Leadership at Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council

The Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafe) announced on February 8th that Nicolas Rueda, Chief Executive Director of ED&F Man Volcafé Brasil, will serve as the Chairman of the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council for the 2021-2022 term. Gunter Hausler, General Manager of NKG Stockler, will serve as Vice Chairman of the Council; Flavia Barbosa Paulino da Costa, Executive Partner of Guaxupe Coffee Exporters, will serve as Secretary of the Council. The previous Council Chairman, Nelson Carvalhaes, who served as a council member from 2016 to 2020, will continue to serve as an advisor to the Council entity after completing his two terms.

New Chairman's Priorities

According to the Council, the new chairman's tasks after taking office will include strengthening the Council's political entity and modernizing management of projects such as social responsibility, sustainable development, export processes & statistics, and commercial intelligence efficiency & transparency.

Brazil Coffee Export Statistics

The Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafe) reported on February 9th that Brazil exported 3,147,222 bags (60kg per bag) of coffee in January this year, a 9.1% decrease from the record high of 3,474,552 bags in the same period last year, and a 13.9% decrease from the export volume of 4,388,120 bags in December last year.

Currency Impact

According to a report released by the Brazilian national currency (Brazilian Real) in São Paulo, due to the depreciation of the Real against the US dollar, the Brazilian Real grew by 10.2% compared to January 2020.

Positive Developments

On his first day in office, Cecafe's new Chairman Nicolas Rueda had good news, stating that the Council's bills settled in Real increased in January, while also mentioning that Brazil's coffee harvest for the first month of 2021 increased by 17.2% compared to the previous month.
