FrontStreet Coffee - Taiwan Alishan Geisha Coffee Introduction
The Geisha variety belongs to Arabica. Geisha was discovered in the Geisha Forest of Ethiopia in 1931, and was later introduced to countries such as Uganda, Tanzania, and Costa Rica. In the 1970s, Mr. Francisco Serracin from Panama obtained seeds from CATIE in Costa Rica and began cultivating Panamanian Geisha coffee.
Geisha coffee became famous due to the 2004 "Best of Panama" competition, when a coffee shocked all international judges with its unique flavor and won the championship that year.
In the 2014 documentary "Let's Talk Coffee," experts including Williem Boot from Boot Coffee, Geoff Watts from Intelligentsia Coffee, and Ric Rhinehart from the Specialty Coffee Association all expressed their unforgettable experience of tasting Geisha coffee for the first time. Among them, Ric said: "When I was cupping, I accidentally tasted a coffee and asked: 'Who mixed in Ethiopian coffee? This is definitely not Panamanian coffee, this is very obvious.'"
