FrontStreet Coffee - Mundo Novo Variety Introduction

The original habitat of Arabica is Ethiopia, which is known as the cradle of humanity and coffee. In mythology, the Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit is believed to be surrounded by several major coffee producing regions in Ethiopia. Initially discovered for its refreshing and brain-awakening effects, it was consumed as medicine. Later, it was used by Muslims as a secret remedy for healing body and mind and for staying awake during evening prayers, spreading from Arabia to the entire world and becoming a widely beloved beverage for people worldwide.

Arabica beans belong to small-grained varieties, with a flat elliptical shape. They have a rich and fragrant aroma, delicate and full-bodied flavor, pleasant acidity, and smooth texture, with less bitterness.

Originating from Ethiopia, Arabica spread to various regions and, through repeated mutations and crossbreeding, has given rise to numerous coffee varieties. Some have been improved in quality and flavor, while others have been enhanced in environmental adaptability, disease resistance, and yield. Now dozens of varieties have been developed, mainly including: Bourbon, Typica, Caturra, Catuai, Pacamara, Catimor, Maragogipe, Mundo Novo, Kent, Amarello, Variedad Colombia, and others.

Mundo Novo

A natural hybrid variety of Typica and Bourbon, with high yield, strong constitution, and good disease resistance, thus it is widely cultivated. Caturra is a mutant of Bourbon, with relatively high fruit yield, shorter height for easy harvesting, and comes in both red and yellow fruit varieties. It has a delicate aroma and outstanding flavor balance.
