High-quality Costa Rican coffee is known as "Strictly Hard Bean," which can grow at altitudes above 1500 meters. Altitude has always been a challenge for coffee growers. The higher the altitude, the better the coffee beans. This is not only because higher altitudes increase the acidity of coffee beans, thereby enhancing flavor, but also because the lower nighttime temperatures at higher elevations slow down tree growth, resulting in more concentrated coffee flavors. Additionally, the significant altitude differences create abundant rainfall, which is also very beneficial for coffee tree growth.
Today, let's teach everyone how to brew light-roasted Costa Rican coffee. Required tools: dripper, filter paper, grinder, electronic scale, pour-over kettle, coffee pot, coffee cup, coffee beans.
Brewing Steps
1. Weigh Beans and Boil Water
While boiling water, weigh the coffee beans according to the coffee cup capacity. TIPS: Typically, the water-to-coffee ratio is 1:15. For example: 225ml of water with 15 grams of coffee beans.
2. Grind Beans
Grind the coffee beans into coffee powder using a grinder.
3. Fold Filter Paper
Flatten the filter paper, fold along the crease line, and place it in the filter cup.
4. Add Coffee Powder
Pour hot water into the pour-over kettle, pour the ground coffee powder into the filter cup to wet the filter paper and warm the cup. Pour gently a few times to evenly distribute the coffee powder in the filter cup. TIPS: Water temperature between 89°C - 94°C is optimal.
5. Bloom
Start the first pour, lasting approximately 30-40 seconds. TIPS: Don't pour too much water during the first pour - just enough to wet the coffee powder.
6. Second Pour
Pour hot water in circular motions from the center outward until the water reaches 7-8 tenths of the entire filter cup.
7. Final Steps
Finally, remove the filter cup, then gently shake the coffee pot to allow the freshly dripped coffee to fully mix. Pour the coffee into the coffee cup and enjoy it while hot!
