Excellent Natural Conditions of Sidamo Coffee Region: Natural Sidamo with Rich Tropical Fruit Flavors
FrontStreet Coffee - Introduction to Sidamo Coffee
The Sidamo region is located in southern Ethiopia. Sidamo coffee has lower caffeine content, making it naturally low-caffeine coffee. Sidamo coffee is cultivated at altitudes between 1400-2000 meters. The local economy is primarily agricultural, with main coffee growing areas located around the Great Rift Valley.
The largest town in Sidamo is Hawassa, which has developed rapidly in recent years with many modern restaurants and hotels established. It's also an important coffee export hub. The flavor profile of Sidamo coffee is incredibly diverse. Different soil types, microclimates, and countless native coffee varieties create distinct differences and characteristics in the coffee produced by each town.
Sidamo coffee beans are medium-sized and oval-shaped, typically processed using both washed and natural methods.
Sidamo coffee offers balanced flavor with high sweetness. Its body is somewhat fuller compared to Yirgacheffe. Especially the wine-like acidity and sweetness produced during the natural drying process, combined with the coffee's original cocoa bitterness, creates an intoxicating flavor reminiscent of liquor-filled chocolate in certain batches.
Natural process Sidamo coffee beans are typically exported as G4 grade, while washed Sidamo coffee is mostly exported as G2 grade due to its more refined processing method.
