It is a member state of the Union of South American Nations.

Its population is mainly of mixed European and Indigenous descent. The western region features coastal plains and three parallel Cordillera ranges that form a highland, with broad valleys between the mountains. The south holds a series of volcanic cones, while the northwest is the alluvial plain of the lower Magdalena River, laced with water channels and extensive lakes and marshes.

Colombia enjoys an excellent environmental climate, with its specialty coffee grown mainly in the southern regions - Nariño, Tolima, Huila, and Cauca. The Cerro Azul Estate sits in the Cauca region.

Although approximately seven varieties totaling about 45,000 Geisha trees are planted here, the naming is strict - only 5,000 to 7,000 trees that truly embody the Cerro Azul character may bear the Cerro Azul designation.
