Premium Geisha - The Glory of Best of Panama (BOP)
As the world's first green bean competition, the emergence of BOP can also be seen as a strategic move by Panama's specialty coffee industry in the coffee market at that time. Through this successful strategy, Panama opened up a blue ocean focused on quality over quantity. In 1995, seven coffee-producing families in Panama jointly established the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama (SCAP). In 1996, they founded the first Panama green bean competition - Best of Panama (BOP).
At the BOP (Best of Panama) on May 25, 2019, Elida Estate's Geisha won dual championships (also a dual champion in 2018, making Elida Estate the first double champion in BOP history). The natural process scored 95.25 points, breaking the previous record and setting a new high, while the washed process also achieved an impressive 95 points. Elida's BOP-2019 award-winning plot (same as in 2018) comes from the La Torre plot, a very special area that meets all the requirements for growing the world's finest Geisha flavors.
The renowned Elida Estate, with a history dating back to 1918, is owned by the Lamastus family. The estate name "Elida" was named after the farm owner's wife at that time. Elida Estate is located in the Boquete region of Panama's western border province. Boquete has always been a prominent coffee-producing area in Panama, with numerous world-famous estates - such as Esmeralda, which became famous overnight with its Geisha variety, as well as BOP frequent winners like Hartman Estate, Mama Cata, Kotowa, Santa Teresa, and more. Elida Estate itself is also a heavyweight star estate in the Boquete region - having won Best of Panama awards for five consecutive years, while also achieving an impressive 95 points from Coffee Review! Its remarkable performance is second only to Esmeralda Estate.
