FrontStreet Coffee - Jamaica Blue Mountain No. 1 Coffee Introduction

As is well known, Jamaica is renowned for producing rum and coffee beans, with Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee holding a sacred place in the global coffee pantheon and occupying a special corner in coffee lovers' hearts. Its balanced and mild flavor profile has earned widespread respect.

Historical Background

In 1717, French King Louis XV ordered coffee cultivation in Jamaica. In the mid-1720s, Jamaican Governor Sir Nicholas Lawes imported Arabica seeds from Martinique and began promoting cultivation in the St. Andrew area. To this day, St. Andrew remains one of the three major producing regions for Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee.

Quality Characteristics

Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee exhibits perfect balance in aroma, body, and taste, and is widely recognized as the king of coffees. Its mellow, smooth taste and sweet aftertaste are unparalleled by other coffees.

In 1953, the Jamaican government established the Coffee Industry Board (JACRA, formerly CIB) to promote the improvement of Jamaican coffee quality. Jamaica was one of the first countries to register coffee production regions as trademarks. All coffee exported from Jamaica must pass through JACRA certification, meaning only coffee legally designated by Jamaican law can be considered authentic Blue Mountain coffee.

Grading System

Jamaican Blue Mountain region coffee has three grades: Blue Mountain Coffee, Jamaica High Mountain Supreme Coffee Beans, and Jamaica Prime Coffee Beans. Both Blue Mountain Coffee and High Mountain Coffee are further divided into two grades each. Ranked by quality from highest to lowest: Blue Mountain No. 1, Blue Mountain No. 2, High Mountain No. 1, High Mountain No. 2, and Jamaica Prime Coffee.

R.S.W Blue Mountain Estate

R.S.W Blue Mountain Estate is located in Jamaica's legally designated Blue Mountain region. The letters R.S.W refer to 100% Blue Mountain coffee beans produced by its Resource, Sherwood Forest, and Whitfield Hall estates. R.S.W is one of the highest-altitude estates in the Blue Mountain region. Due to the high elevation, cool mountain clouds often envelop the area in the afternoons, which is highly beneficial for coffee tree growth, avoiding excessive midday sun exposure and allowing more complete coffee fruit development and nutrient absorption. One pound of Blue Mountain green beans costs over a thousand yuan.

Coffee Variety

Knowledge Point: The coffee variety of Jamaican Blue Mountain is one of the oldest varieties - Typica.
