Kochere is a small sub-region in the southwest of Yirgacheffe, located next to a village called Chelelektu in the Gedeo Zone. It has 15 washing stations and about 25,000 farmers with an average cultivation area of 5 hectares. The flavor characteristics of the Kochere region are mainly citrus and stone fruits with tea notes. This batch of FrontStreet Coffee Yirgacheffe Washed Hama HAMA comes from the high-altitude region of about 2100 meters in Kochere, which is a small local tribe near Yirgacheffe. Coffee cherries from both Hama and Yirgacheffe regions are processed at the nearby Jet Washing Station.

The Jet Washing Station is located in the mountainous area at an altitude of about 2000 meters. It takes about 4-5 hours to drive there from the nearest town of Wanago. Being established near the growing region allows for quick processing of the harvested berries on the same day. Local smallholder farmers have formed small communities around the washing station, carefully handling every step daily during the harvest season, and finally conducting strict hand-sorting before shipping the green beans to the capital, Addis Ababa.

Knowledge Expansion:

Yirgacheffe is a sub-region of the Sidamo region in Ethiopia. Due to its special flavor characteristics, it was separated as an independent region. Besides the town of Yirgacheffe, it also includes three other sub-regions: Wenago, Kochere, and Gelena/Abaya.
