FrontStreet Coffee - Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee · Blue Mountain No. 1 Introduction
Not all coffee produced in Jamaica is called Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee. Blue Mountain Coffee has very strict certification standards. In 1951, Jamaica established the Coffee Industry Board (CIB), which defined the production area, altitude, and other technical specifications for Blue Mountain Coffee. According to the standards of the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board (CIB), the legal Blue Mountain Coffee production area is limited to three administrative regions: St. Andrew, St. Thomas, and Portland.
The CIB also has strict standards for the cultivation altitude of Blue Mountain Coffee:
Coffee grown at altitudes between 900-1700 meters is called: Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee.
Coffee grown at altitudes between 460-900 meters is called: Jamaica High Mountain Coffee.
Coffee grown below 460 meters is called Jamaica Premium Coffee, while coffee from outside the Blue Mountain region is called Jamaica Prime Coffee.

Among all these coffees, Blue Mountain Coffee stands out as the finest, and among Blue Mountain Coffee varieties, Blue Mountain No. 1 holds the crown.
Blue Mountain Coffee is classified into four grades: Blue Mountain No. 1 (17-18 mesh and above), Blue Mountain No. 2 (16 mesh), Blue Mountain No. 3 (15-16 mesh), and PB (Peaberry).
Mesh is a measurement unit for coffee, where 1 mesh = 0.4mm.
Blue Mountain No. 1 is the highest grade among Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee varieties.
Blue Mountain Coffee must be confirmed by specialized cupping personnel approved by the Jamaican government and can only be exported when packed in specially made oak barrels.
Blue Mountain Coffee comes from the Clifton Hill Estate in Newcastle, Blue Mountains, Jamaica (an ancient coffee estate still in normal operation in Jamaica, recognized as an excellent Blue Mountain Coffee production area). At an altitude of 1310 meters, it undergoes washed processing, with a grade of No. 1. It offers a well-balanced taste, fresh and elegant, with perfect balance between acidity, body, and aroma. It has bright and pleasant acidity, with floral and lemon notes upon entry, high sweetness, and a long-lasting aftertaste.
Knowledge Extension
The Blue Mountain Range is located in the eastern part of Jamaica Island. When the weather is clear, the sun directly shines on the azure Caribbean Sea, and the peaks reflect the brilliant blue light of the seawater, hence its name.
