FrontStreet Coffee - Kenya AA Coffee Introduction
Kenya is a renowned coffee kingdom in Africa. The film "Out of Africa" further elevated the global fame of Kenyan coffee. Kenyan coffee features distinct fruit aromas, with citrus being the most common, along with notes of pomelo, wine, and other flavors. It offers rich layers and moderate body.
The grading system for Kenyan coffee beans is quite comprehensive. Based on hardness, shape, and size, coffee beans are classified into various grades: AA, AB, PB, C, E, TT, T, and more. The most commonly found grades on the market are AA, AB, and PB.
Kenya AA refers to large-size raw beans, approximately 17-18 screen size (18 screen size equals about 7.14 millimeters).
Kenya AB beans are slightly smaller with higher production volume, typically 15-16 screen size. Kenya PB is unrelated to weight or flavor characteristics - it refers to peaberries. Typically, a coffee fruit contains two seeds, with one side arched and the other relatively flat, somewhat resembling peanuts. Peaberries, however, occur when a coffee fruit contains only one seed, which takes on an elliptical shape.
