Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee | How Does Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Taste | Blue Mountain Coffee
What is Blue Mountain Coffee?
The so-called Blue Mountain is a mountain located in Jamaica. This mountain has an excellent climate, making it an exceptional coffee origin; precisely for this reason, genuine Blue Mountain Coffee is regarded as a specialty coffee.
Certification and Rarity
However, not all coffee grown on Blue Mountain is called Blue Mountain Coffee. Only coffee from a specific altitude range is certified, and the annual production is extremely limited. Most people actually never have the opportunity to taste authentic Blue Mountain Coffee.
Jamaica: The Birthplace
When discussing Blue Mountain Coffee, one must mention Jamaica. Located in the Caribbean region of Central America, Jamaica is a small island nation situated in the tropics. Due to its humid and rainy climate, the eastern mountainous regions have formed areas abundant in high-quality coffee beans, with Blue Mountain being among them. Surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, Blue Mountain gets its name because on clear days, when sunlight directly strikes the azure sea surface, the mountain peaks reflect the brilliant blue glow of the seawater.
The Prestige of Blue Mountain Coffee
The status of Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee in the coffee world is like that of "Rolls-Royce" in automobiles or "Patek Philippe" in watches. Those who love Blue Mountain Coffee even call it "the coffee beauty that combines all the advantages of good coffee."
The Reality Behind the Market
Since it's a beauty, it's not commonly encountered. In 2013, CCTV's economic channel produced a special report claiming that all Blue Mountain Coffee in the Chinese market was fake. They interviewed Jamaican Ambassador to China, Courtnay Rattray, who explained that Blue Mountain Coffee production is extremely low, with 85-90% monopolized by Japan, 10% supplied to the European and American markets, and basically not exported to China. Most Beijing cafes claim to import raw Blue Mountain Coffee beans from Jamaica and roast them themselves. Ambassador Rattray stated that so far, Jamaica has not directly exported raw beans to China. The claim of importing raw beans from abroad and roasting domestically is obviously a lie.
