Malawi Republic
The Republic of Malawi (Chichewa: Dziko la Malaŵi; English: Republic of Malawi;简称: Malawi) is located in southeastern Africa and is a landlocked country surrounded by Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zambia. It covers an area of 118,000 square kilometers with a population of 15.118 million. Malawi is named after Lake Malawi, the third largest lake in Africa, covering an area of 30,000 square kilometers with depths reaching over 700 meters.
Malawi is one of the world's least developed countries, heavily dependent on international aid. Its economy is primarily agricultural, with main cash crops including: tobacco, coffee, tea, cotton, and sugarcane. Malawi was formerly a British colony and remained in the Commonwealth after independence. It has been deeply influenced by Britain, adopting British models for administration, justice, and education. Today, Britain remains its most important aid provider.
Sable Farm, Malawi
Sable Farm
So you might ask, why does such a small place appear so many times in Starbucks Reserve?
The consistently excellent coffee from Sable Farm is the result of local coffee farmers' unwavering commitment to their coffee philosophy. Due to lack of infrastructure, the inland southern Malawi region is not an easy place to grow coffee. However, local coffee farmers have poured their efforts and limited resources into precise irrigation using drip irrigation systems, solar dryers to save energy while drying coffee beans, waste composting, water recycling and filtration, and regular soil monitoring. Every step of their processing reflects their respect for the local natural environment. They extend the same philosophy to their community.
In 2016, Starbucks also took a series of measures to help infrastructure development in the Malawi region.

Water purification devices built by Starbucks for schools
Previously, teachers and students at the school could only drink water from nearby streams, with a high risk of contracting waterborne diseases. Therefore, Starbucks helped them build water purification systems so they could drink clean water.
At the same time, Starbucks also helped renovate dormitories for teachers and students at the school.
