Starbucks Introduces Colombia Blue Mountain Geisha Coffee Beans

Starbucks has launched "Colombia Blue Mountain" coffee beans, commonly known as Geisha coffee beans. The rarity of Geisha coffee beans lies in their cultivation difficulties. This variety originally only grew in specific countries. After improvement, Blue Mountain Estate became the first successful Geisha coffee plantation in Colombia. Colombia Blue Mountain coffee beans are grown on slopes at altitudes ranging from 1,600 to 2,000 meters. The initial taste reveals grape and floral fruit notes, the middle notes resemble tropical fruits like pineapple or mango, and the aftertaste leaves a lingering berry aroma in the mouth.

Growth of Asia's Premium Coffee Market

Asia's coffee market has flourished in recent years, with premium coffee sales showing the most astonishing growth. Sensing business opportunities, Starbucks opened its first "Starbucks Reserve" store in Hsinchu North Gate in 2013. To date, there are 24 Reserve stores across Taiwan, with the Taipei Longmen store being the highest-specification Reserve store in Taiwan.

Starbucks' Diversified Business Strategy

Xu Guangyu, General Manager of Uni-President Starbucks, stated that Starbucks will pursue more diversified operations in the future, divided into regular coffee items (such as lattes, American coffee, etc.), TEAVANA tea beverage products, and premium single-origin coffees (Starbucks Reserve series). They have launched nearly 90 varieties of Reserve series coffee beans. The number of visitors to Reserve stores has grown by over 10%, showing high acceptance of Reserve coffee among premium coffee customers.

Unique Experiences at Reserve Stores

There are 24 "Starbucks Reserve" stores in total. Notably unique are the "Reserve Espresso" series at the Taipei Longmen store, "Clover, Pour-over, and French Press Coffee" at the Kaohsiung Art Museum Vision store, and "Siphon Coffee" at the Chiayi Zhongxiao store, which provides both visual and gustatory experiences. The Taipei Longmen store has taken the lead in launching "Colombia Blue Mountain" coffee beans, offering specially designed black paper cups and carrier bags printed with the exclusive Reserve store logo.

Premium Pricing for Rare Beans

Starbucks has introduced the rare "Colombia Blue Mountain" coffee beans, first launched at Taiwan Reserve stores. Each 250-gram package is priced at NT$1,680.

The Extraordinary Geisha Coffee Bean

In recent years, at coffee auctions, Geisha coffee beans have repeatedly set new record prices.

Geisha coffee trees belong to the Arabica variety (all specialty coffees come from Arabica varieties) and originate from Geisha Mountain in Ethiopia.

Due to their extremely limited production, mellow and smooth taste, and elegant sweet aroma, they are considered dream treasures in the world of specialty coffee.
