Coffee Bean Notes
The Blue Mountain Range is located in the eastern part of Jamaica Island, surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. On clear, sunny days, when sunlight shines directly on the azure sea surface, the mountain peaks reflect the brilliant blue glow of the seawater, hence the name "Blue Mountain."
R.S.W. Estates is located within the Blue Mountain region and consists of three estates: Resource, Sherwood Forest, and Whitfield Hall. Taking the first letters of these three estates gives us the origin of the name R.S.W. Joint Estates.
In 1948, the world-renowned Jamaica Coffee Industry Board (CIB) was officially established, while the Jamaican government enacted "The Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Industry Management Regulations." The main responsibility of CIB is to enhance the quality of Blue Mountain coffee through management and supervision, restoring the global reputation of Blue Mountain coffee.
At this time, the definition of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee was already strictly regulated in the legislation:
1. Granting four designated coffee estates, including Wallenford, the exclusive right to centrally process Blue Mountain coffee beans to ensure Blue Mountain coffee quality.
2. Grown in the Blue Mountain region at elevations between 3,000-5,000 feet.
3. Blue Mountain coffee exports are graded: No.1/No.2/No.3/Peaberry.
Starting from 1960, some management functions were delegated to the oldest and only state-owned Blue Mountain coffee estate—Wallenford Estate. Wallenford Estate became synonymous with the CIB, shouldering the mission of improving Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee quality, establishing management rules, and innovating coffee industry management. The estate managers were also appointed by government departments. All exported Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee was also named: Wallenford Estate Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, representing the highest grade of Blue Mountain coffee.
