Sidamo's coffee flavors are exceptionally diverse. Different soil compositions, regional microclimates, and countless native coffee varieties create distinct differences and characteristics in coffee produced by each town and area. The Sidamo region is located in southern Ethiopia, where agriculture dominates the industry, and coffee growing areas surround the Great Rift Valley.

Shakisso, located in Guji, Oromia region in the south, borders Sidamo and Gedeo. This area contains numerous mine pits that were historically used for gold mining, resulting in many holes throughout the coffee growing region. This makes walking through coffee cultivation areas quite dangerous. Shakisso stands as a unique region within Guji/Sidamo - even within Sidamo, it remains a remote area far from most coffee-producing locations. The region's other famous product is gold. Factors such as miners, land disputes, and ethnic tensions caused instability in the region in 2006. Consequently, the area now faces its greatest challenge: the need for manpower to maintain plantations and harvest coffee. Local smallholder farmers began growing organic coffee in 2001, working closely with medium-sized coffee producers who possess expertise in cultivating forest coffee in highland areas.
