Philippines %Arabica Suddenly Closes All Stores, Arabica Coffee Official Account Suddenly Deleted?!
%Arabica Suddenly Closes All Stores in Philippines
On January 30, Filipino netizens posted on social media that the %Arabica store in Taguig City, Philippines had suddenly closed! Subsequently, netizens from other regions in the Philippines also posted online that %Arabica stores within the Philippines were in a state of complete closure. Due to the sudden nature of this incident, %Arabica's official Instagram account (arabica.journal) was also deactivated, leading local netizens and media to express: Is %Arabica withdrawing from the Philippine market?!
%Arabica's Official Response
In response, on January 31, %Arabica Coffee announced on Facebook that they were terminating their partnership with their Philippine partner Allue Hortaleza. Consequently, all existing %Arabica stores in the Philippines would temporarily close. At the same time, %Arabica stated that they had already found a new agency company for the Philippine market and promised to resume operations of %Arabica stores in the Philippines this year (though the store locations would change).
They also explained that the Instagram account (arabica.journal) appeared to be deactivated because it had been hacked, and they were actively contacting the platform to restore it. As of the time of writing, this account has been restored and updated.
Public Reaction and Social Media Exchange
Following this, netizens commented: "Even if you need to close temporarily, you should have notified us in advance... It made us think %Arabica was withdrawing from the Philippine market 😅" %Arabica also replied to this comment: "We didn't know our former partner would suddenly suspend store operations... They indicated they would open their own brand coffee shop at the original locations."
Former Partner's Statement
Subsequently, on February 1, %Arabica's former Philippine partner Allue Hortaleza also posted a statement on Instagram, stating that although they had ended their partnership with %Arabica, they would continue to work hard to provide high-quality coffee for everyone.
Public Opinion and Future Outlook
Although both parties responded, many netizens expressed that after two years of the pandemic, the Philippine economy is just beginning to recover, and more people are starting to consume at coffee shops. %Arabica has always been a popular internet-famous coffee shop where Filipino netizens love to check in, and their coffee quality has consistently been stable and excellent. It's believed that business would certainly be good afterward. Now that they've split up, perhaps it's a bit unwise.
Perhaps... precisely because they saw business recovering, the former partner thought of "starting their own venture," after all, this way they could earn money without sharing profits with %Arabica. But without %Arabica, how will the former partner's coffee shop business fare? We'll wait and see.
