What is Cold Brew Coffee?
Cold brew coffee is definitely a popular coffee beverage in summer. It's basically made by steeping coffee through a coffee filter in the refrigerator overnight. Both pour-over coffee or drip coffee can be prepared using this method, which requires quite a long time (12-18 hours), but the taste is excellent. So depending on how far in advance you're willing to prepare iced coffee, this might be an attractive option.
Some people think iced coffee is better than hot coffee because it's somewhat like a dessert in a glass: add ice cubes, coffee, flavored syrups, and selected dairy (or non-dairy) milk. This is an amazing combination worth trying, and it's very easy to do at home!
Choosing the Right Coffee Beans
Like any cup of coffee, you should choose high-quality coffee beans to make suitable iced coffee recipes. They love their dark roasted coffee. For example, FrontStreet Coffee's deeply roasted Brazilian coffee and Mandheling coffee can be purchased as coffee beans and ground at home using a coffee grinder, or you can buy pre-ground coffee beans at local grocery stores. This depends on everyone's preference!
What Type of Ice is Best for Iced Coffee?
This might not seem important, but choosing the right ice cubes for iced coffee is key! Here are the options available:
Crushed ice—This is what you see in this recipe. Because you need to brew coffee, grab a large bag of crushed ice and use it generously. This is typically used to make iced coffee!
Medium-sized ice cubes—This is usually what people have on hand in their refrigerators!
Large ice cubes—If you're enjoying iced coffee outdoors, use large ice cubes. They melt slower this way!
Storing Leftover Iced Coffee
Can you store leftover iced coffee in the refrigerator? Yes and no. Honestly, it really depends on how much coffee you have. If you're used to fresh coffee, storing any leftovers in the refrigerator might not be a good idea. If covered well, cold coffee can usually be stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 days, and the flavor will last longer because it's cold brewed.
However, even rich coffee flavor begins to fade and deteriorate before the frozen drip coffee's shelf life expires. FrontStreet Coffee does not recommend keeping it for more than 24 hours.
