FrontStreet Coffee - Elida Natural Geisha 803 Introduction
Klatch Coffee in California, USA recently launched what is claimed to be the world's most expensive coffee, selling for $75 per cup, approximately 516 RMB. Named "Elida Natural Geisha 803," it won the grand prize at the world's most authoritative green bean competition held in Panama last year, and later fetched a record price of $803 per pound at auction, thus earning the name "803."
This coffee is made from organic coffee beans called "Elida Natural Geisha 803." These coffee beans feature aromas of tea, jasmine, and berries. They won the grand prize at the world's most authoritative green bean competition held in Panama last year, and later fetched a high price of $803 (5,520 RMB) per pound (0.45 kg) at auction, setting a record for the highest transaction price. Hence the name "Elida Natural Geisha 803."
At that time, 45 kilograms of "Elida Natural Geisha 803" were available for sale, with most going to Asia. Klatch Coffee received 4.5 kilograms, enough to make approximately 80 cups of coffee, so it is only sold at their stores in San Francisco and Southern California. Klatch Coffee's San Francisco store held a promotional event for this coffee on the 15th, offering samples with the slogan "The World's Most Expensive Coffee." Some participants who tasted it mentioned that its flavor differs from other coffees.
Geisha Coffee: The World's Most Expensive Variety
Geisha coffee is currently the most expensive coffee variety in the world. The Geisha variety originates from the Kaffa forests of Ethiopia and was brought to prominence in Panama. In 2004, the "Geisha" specialty coffee bean was discovered and gained fame, repeatedly winning championships in Panama's Best Green Bean Cupping Competition, dominating through 2007. Because Geisha coffee's flavor overwhelmingly surpassed other varieties with no rivals, in 2008, the Geisha variety was separated to hold its own competition.
The flavor of Geisha variety coffee is loved by many people. They feature rich citrus aroma, jasmine fragrance, sweet nectar scent, and bright, varied fruit acidity, making major coffee-producing countries compete to cultivate them. Even coffee of the same variety can have significantly different flavors when grown in different coffee cultivation environments.
