Costa Rica Coffee Estate - Costa Rica Naranjo Cooperative
The Naranjo Cooperative is located northwest of the capital San Jose, belonging to the Alajuela province, and enjoys an excellent reputation in the coffee industry. The Naranjo Cooperative has more than 2,500 small farmer members. Due to the exceptional quality of coffee produced by these small farmers, the Naranjo Cooperative is listed as an important cooperative recommended by the Costa Rican Specialty Coffee Association.
The cooperative is renowned for its strict quality control, emphasis on ecology, and strict control of wastewater from the washing process. Wastewater from fermentation tanks is directed to a microbial treatment facility, where staff conduct daily water quality tests. The treated water is then used for irrigation and secondary recycling.
