Timor Leste is a small island between Indonesia and Australia. Having experienced 450 years of Portuguese colonization and 25 years of Indonesian rule, the local people are generally not prosperous, especially farmers who live in poverty. The vast majority of crop growers cannot afford pesticides or insecticides and other chemicals, which has left most of Timor Leste's land unpolluted, making it an excellent organic coffee production area. In recent years, Timor Leste has emerged from the economic collapse caused by past political turmoil. With effective assistance from the European Union and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), new washing processing stations have been built, equipment has been updated, and they have switched to cultivating the stable and excellent quality Typica variety. Timor Leste coffee quality has gradually gained favor in the international coffee market, and of course, prices have been rising year by year.
Most Timor Leste coffee is grown by regional small farmers using natural farming methods, with production volumes not being large. Coffee bean sizes vary and uneven colors are common phenomena, but the quality is generally good. In terms of flavor performance, it has high body thickness, with unique spice notes, balanced bitterness and sweetness, making it suitable for various roasting levels.
