Fushan Coffee Culture Town

The central area of Fushan Coffee Culture Town is a national AAA-level scenic area on the south side of the Ring Island Expressway in Fushan Town, Chengmai County, at the junction of the Ring Island Expressway and Fuqiao Road—extremely convenient to reach. From the high-speed rail station, a taxi to the town entrance costs just a few yuan; driving yourself, exit the G98 Expressway and follow the signs for about one kilometer.

Turning past the large stone monument, an avenue lined with towering palm trees appears, small bamboo flutes framing Mediterranean-style architecture on both sides, the air already carrying the rich aroma of coffee.

The exterior decoration uses light beige and off-white as the main palette, complemented by the internationally popular light coffee-colored textured mortar, with local volcanic rock used in places to reflect regional character.

At the end of Palm Avenue stands the Fushan Coffee Culture Museum, with three floors of indoor displays covering 6,338 square meters. The exhibition is divided into six parts: (1) Fushan Coffee Development History (five chapters: the volcanic eruption, the ancient homeland, yesterday of Fushan Coffee—Chen Xianzhang and Fushan Coffee, today of Fushan Coffee, and tomorrow of Fushan Coffee); (2) the history of coffee's spread around the world; (3) the history of coffee in China; (4) coffee science knowledge; (5) coffee and health; and (6) the multifunctional "Coffee Forum" conference center, including the Coffee Forum Conference Hall, Fushan Coffee Conference Hall, Coffee Cupping Room, and World Celebrity Coffee Reception Room.

Many national leaders have visited. Would you like to taste this dazzling array of products? These are the world's three great coffees. This is what coffee beans look like. Are these ancient tools still in use today? Bronze statues depict early coffee production scenes, and vitrines hold coffee utensils of every kind. Coffee cherries and coffee trees. Roasted beans. How many love stories have these coffee shops witnessed? Authentic coffee—is it bitter? Does it suit your taste once condensed milk is added? Is this the world's largest coffee cup?

After half a day of touring, I came away with a first understanding of coffee varieties, the history and current state of coffee cultivation in Hainan, the making of the Fushan Coffee brand, and the coffee processing workflow.

China actually has two coffee-growing regions, Hainan and Yunnan—but Hainan's coastal heat and low elevation make it unsuitable for arabica, so China's specialty coffee is concentrated in Yunnan.
