The Story Behind Gesha Village

Estate owner Adam Overton is a genuine American and documentary filmmaker by profession. His wife, Rachel Samuel, is Ethiopian and works as a photographer. In 2007, the couple was commissioned to Ethiopia to shoot a documentary about coffee. As the filming progressed and their contact with the Ethiopian land and people deepened, their dream of establishing their own estate began to sprout.

Everything took a breakthrough turn after they met Willem Boot. Even the estate's location selection, variety selection, and processing methods were all greatly related to Willem Boot.

Discovery of Wild Gesha

Willem Boot and Adam discovered wild Gesha trees in a primary forest not far from the estate that were remarkably similar to Panamanian Gesha in form. Whether in cherry shape or branch growth pattern, they were comparable. The growing environment was deeply shaded by trees, with thousands of coffee shrubs growing in clusters, and coffee flowers blooming profusely. The air was filled with an incredibly strong jasmine fragrance. Willem Boot recalled feeling as if he was "in paradise" at that moment!

First Harvest Success

In 2015, Gesha Village had its first harvest. With nervous anticipation, they took the first batch of processed green beans to Willem Boot for cupping. The cupping result turned out to be the best cup Willem Boot had tasted all year!

The Return of Gesha

In 1931, a Gesha plant was taken from Ethiopia, flourishing and gaining fame in a foreign land. 85 years later, a documentary filmmaker with a dream rediscovered the homeland of Gesha. The world will now have the opportunity to get to know Gesha that has returned to Ethiopia.
